SCORE Charleston SC has announced the launch of its 2017 veterans’ small business grant program and call for applications. According to Mel Flaming, Chairman of SCORE Charleston SC, they will be distributing a total of $5,000 in grant funds to eligible veterans to help them either launch or continue their small business operations.

The amount of each grant will be determined by a SCORE grant committee.  Each award will be an unrestricted cash grant. In addition, each recipient will receive free QuickBooks training valued at $800 from Pathways Consulting Inc., a full- service accounting and bookkeeping firm serving the Tri-county area.

To be eligible, all prospective nominees must be either a veteran or currently considered on active duty, and have been assigned to a SCORE volunteer mentor for counsel.  The deadline for applications is June 1, 2017. Flaming noted, “Because of an increase in proceeds from our yearly fund-raising golf outing, we will be able to provide these grants to deserving veterans.”  To fund next year’s program, SCORE is already planning its next golf tournament which will be held in October of 2017 at the Charleston National Golf Course in Mount Pleasant.
